The South Beach Chamber Ensemble was founded in 1997 by Michael Andrews. It began with a free concert of Haydn and Dvorak Piano Trios at the Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach. Our Music in Beautiful Spaces series has been supported by Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council and the Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs for 26 years. The ensemble is one of the only arts organizations in south Florida dedicated to offering affordable chamber music programs to new audiences while showcasing local musical talent. In December 2020, we presented Black Voices, an Evening of Music and Thought, with guest host Nicole Henry and spoken word artists Allison Matulli and Darius V. Daughtry. It was our first live-streamed event, with 30 people listening, socially distanced, in person and over 1,000 viewing from all over the United States, the UK, France and Venezuela. Since then it has reached over 3,100 people. In April 2021 we returned to the Gallery @ The Betsy Hotel on Ocean Drive for the first live performance there in over a year. Jonathan Pluznik gave us a warm welcome with a beautiful background of art by Carlos Betancourt. The enthusiastic audience, including Mr. Betancourt, gave us a standing ovation. The city of Miami Beach asked our string quartet to perform daily on Ocean Drive during Art Basel week, 2021-22. We returned with Mozart on the Move, our free family friendly concert, to open the new Ocean Drive Promenade series on February 6, 2022, supported by the Ocean Drive Association and the city of Miami Beach. Over 500 people attended. We perform annually on Ocean Drive Promenade.
