The Livestock Markets Association of Canada represents the majority of the livestock auction markets in Canada. Their membership also includes order buyers and livestock marketers from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and B.C. The LMAC is recognized as the National representatives of the cattle marketing sector and works closely with the Canadian Cattle Association, both the Federal and Provincial governments as well as industry organizations such as the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency, CFIA, AAFC, National Farmed Animal Care Council and other industry organizations. The LMAC represents the livestock marketing sector on issues such as animal welfare, transportation, traceability and regulatory changes and development.Approximately 85 per cent of the livestock sold publicly are traded through LMAC members.LMAC holds an Annual Convention each May, the location and host province changes yearly. This gives members and industry partners a chance to meet and discuss industry issues and solutions. This networking opportunity draws over 250 livestock marketers to the annual convention. The Annual meeting at the convention features guest speakers giving presentations on subjects such as market outlooks, risk management along with updates on industry issues and projects. In conjunction with the Convention the LMAC hosts the Canadian Livestock Auctioneering Championships. This event draws over 35 of Canada's top and up and coming auctioneers competition for the Canadian crown while selling live cattle at live auction.
