UR Community Cares connects older and disabled neighbors with compassionate community volunteers to provide in-home non-medical support services. Our mission is to enable individuals to live more fulfilled, independent, and happier lives at home, safely “aging in place” with the dignity, care, and respect they deserve.Founded in 2019, our flagship program, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, connects volunteers with neighbors in need, fostering meaningful relationships and building a stronger, more inclusive community.Neighbors Helping Neighbors Opportunities include:Mentorship programs to bridge generational gaps and foster shared learning experiences.Assistance with daily tasks such as errands, light housekeeping, or companionship.Technical support for older adults adapting to new technologies.Since our inception, we have expanded our programming to support our mission of keeping older and disabled neighbors supported in their homes and active in their communities. We understand that maintaining independence also means reducing loneliness.In 2023, we developed the Directory of Blind and Vision Impaired Services and Organizations, available in several formats: a 100-page large print edition in English, a 27-page print version in English, an online version, a 100-page print edition in English, and a 27-page version in English/Spanish or on a flash drive.Additionally, in 2023, we launched Cycling Without Age Manchester to provide older and disabled adults access to events and parks for free recreational activities.
