William Donaldson

William Donaldson, an historian, is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Portsmouth and Gosport History Group. He is a passionate re-enactment enthusiast. He is considered amongst his peers and much wider afield as the go to expert on weapons, equipment and tactics of a number of operations and occurrences in WWI and WWII. William is currently researching Operation Husky and No. 3 Commandos, especially their actions at Malati Bridge in 1943. In honour of a family connection, he has decided to tell the story of the commandos and their mainly forgotten raid, which helped the advance and subsequent British capture of Catania, Sicily.William has been involved in the heritage sector for the past five years, promoting and advancing the public's knowledge of their local history through a charity he established in 2019. He is also committed to bringing younger generations into the heritage sector through education and engagement.
