Yoko April Tamada is a Los Angeles-born artist currently residing in San Francisco. They recently received a Bachelor’s Degree in Cinema and Race & Resistance Studies with a focus in Queer Trans Ethnic Studies and Asian American Studies from SFSU. Yoko’s natural affinity for knowledge and community has followed them as they have risen as a spoken-word poet, educator, and filmmaker.At SFSU, Yoko organized events for the Asian American Studies Department—building community through political education workshops, art events, and academic social gatherings. As a filmmaker, Yoko is an event organizer of film screenings and fundraisers. She is the producer of multiple acclaimed short films: Statelines, Play It Like It's '54, Nocturnals Anonymous, and FIG.
