The word Zonta, signifying honest and trustworthy in the Teton dialect of the Sioux, an Amerindian group, was chosen by the women who founded the Confederation of Zonta Clubs in 1919.The emblem that evolved thereafter draws from several Sioux symbols, blending the individual elements to embrace the goals and objectives of Zontians: “a group of people inspired by the common goals of community service, banded together to achieve a framework of loyalty, honesty and trustworthiness”
